Tendinopathy (Formerly Tendinitis)

Tendinopathy is the new term and with it comes some new and effective strategies in reducing tendon pain.

Tendons connect muscle to bone. Some of the most common tendons are the achilles and patella tendons as well as the rotator cuff. Tennis elbow affects the extensor muscle tendon attachment on the outer elbow.

Tendons are dynamic structures made from collagen. Tendinitis (meaning inflamed tendon) is no longer used in medical circumstances because the condition is more due to changing tendon structure and sensitivity rather than inflammation.

With recent understanding of tendinopathy and the nature of pain, tendon loading programs have been shown to be more effective in the short-term and provide a strong basis for a pain free return to sport and leisure, rather than rest and medications.

SmartMoves Physiotherapists have a special interest in tendon problems and will give you the knowledge and confidence to load your tendon rather than get weaker with avoidance.
