Neck Pain

Affects 2/3 of the population at some stage….

Neck pain can occur as result of a trauma or injury (commonly a Whiplash or compression injury) or as a result of repetitive strain, poor posture or workplace practices.

Neck pain may involve cervical spine discs, joints, muscle or nerve structures (often resulting in symptoms in the arm or hand). It can also be more global and occur as a result of postural dysfunction or muscle imbalance.

Initially, treatment may involve massage, joint mobilisation or taping to relieve symptoms combined with an exercise program.

A lot of neck pain is a result of strength imbalances which can be helped significantly with guided exercise.

The new Whiplash treatment guidelines encourage an early return to normal activities. Your physiotherapist can help you get back to normal as soon as possible.
