Lower Back Pain is the 2nd most common reason a person will see a GP…but only 7% of people receive the treatment they need.

Lower back pain is so common yet so poorly understood and poorly treated.

Low back pain may occur as a result of a trauma or repetitive strain. It is often linked with a sedentary lifestyle, poor posture or workplace practices.

Lower back pain may be structural and involve the lumbar discs, facet joints or surrounding nerves. On many occasions though, there is no specific source of your lower back pain.

The new international guidelines for lower back pain include education, reassurance and movement rather than medications and bed rest.

Exercise has been shown to be the most effective type of treatment for long term lower back pain.

Your physiotherapist will thoroughly assess your lower back pain. In the early stages, treatments can be used to reduce pain and spasm combined with advice regarding what movements are helpful or problematic.

Long-term lower back pain is often associated with a fear to move. your physiotherapist can help you overcome this barrier and resume a normal life as quickly as possible.
